Surju Kunwar: A Story of Love and Justice
Surju Kunwar: A Story of Love and Justice : Once upon a time, in the realm of Tibet, there was a noble Prince named Sonpal who had seven daughters. The eldest among them, Jotramala, possessed a beauty that rivaled the brilliance of the full moon. She prayed fervently to the goddess Ganges for a husband as magnificent as herself, and her prayers were answered when the goddess proclaimed that Lord Krishna would be her destined spouse.
Krishna, upon seeing Jotramala in a dream, was captivated by her beauty and expressed his love through a letter carried by black bees to his brother, Surju, residing in Bimlikot. Surju, bound by duty to his elder brother, accepted the task of journeying to Tibet to bring Jotramala to Dwarka, despite ominous signs such as blackened water, a sneezing goat, and his own hair falling out.
Undeterred, Surju embarked on his mission but encountered peril at the Kailash mountain, where seven witches enchanted him into a spotted ram while he slept. Surju’s wife, Bijora, a powerful witch herself, came to his rescue disguised as a man. With her magical prowess, she compelled the witches to reveal Surju’s whereabouts and restored him to human form.
Determined to fulfill Krishna’s request, Surju, accompanied by the heroic Sidwa of Ramoligarh, set out for Dwarka. Despite facing numerous challenges, including a confrontation with a king whose subjects walked on one foot, Sidwa’s magical flute playing and prowess subdued adversaries.
Upon reaching Tibet, Surju and Sidwa devised a plan to meet Jotramala during a bathing fair. However, Sidwa feigned illness and slept through the fair, causing them to miss their chance. Nevertheless, Surju encountered Jotramala and delivered Krishna’s message, leading her to invite him to her palace.
Unbeknownst to Surju, Jotramala’s jealous sisters conspired to poison him during a dinner invitation. Tragically, Surju succumbed to their treachery and was buried in a cellar. The news of Surju’s demise reached Krishna through ominous signs, prompting him to enlist Bidwa, Sidwa’s brother, to revive Surju.
Disguised as a holy man, Bidwa journeyed to Tibet and awakened Sidwa, informing him of Surju’s death. Fueled by rage, the brothers confronted King Sonpal’s daughters and compelled them to reveal Surju’s burial site. Utilizing their magical abilities, they resurrected Surju and enacted justice by dethroning Sonpal and his daughters.
Surju Kunwar: A Story of Love and Justice : In the end, Jotramala was brought to Dwarka and wedded to Krishna, fulfilling the prophecy.
