JE recruitment test cancelled

Dehradun, Uttarakhand has seen a pattern of cancelled recruitment exams due to irregularities. The latest instance is the entrance test for 776 junior engineer (JE) positions in various government departments, which was cancelled on Saturday, requiring the 31,000 applicants to rewrite the exam. The Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UKPSC) will announce fresh dates in the second week of April, and the exam process is likely to be completed by September of this year.

The JE recruitment exams were held in May of last year, and results were announced on August 31 of that year. The interview process had already started for some positions. However, irregularities appeared in the patwari and lekhpal exams conducted by UKPSC in January of this year, leading to the cancellation of those exams and their rescheduling in February. While interrogating the accused in the case, the Special Investigating Team (SIT) of Uttarakhand police found irregularities in the JE exams conducted by UKPSC as well.

UKPSC has recommended that the government provide age relaxations to candidates who need to reappear for the exams, as some may have crossed the age limit. Officials also told TOI that applicants who appeared in the May 2022 written exams would not be required to submit application fees next time. As Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that interviews for Grade C posts would be cancelled, the marks allotted for these cannot be used to favour or disfavour a candidate. As a result, the fresh exams will not include interviews.

Sources suggest that the number of JE posts may increase when the UKPSC announces fresh dates in April. It is worth noting that recruitment exams in Uttarakhand date back to 2016.
