Story of Bhagdeo The Warrior
Story of Bhagdeo The Warrior : Once upon a time, there was a great prince named Koku Rawat who lived in a place called Kokukot. He had seven queens, but he didn’t have any sons. So, he married another wife named Kunjavati, who was very beautiful. Kunjavati became his main queen, and this made the other queens jealous.
Kunjavati soon became pregnant and in her ninth month, she really wanted to eat deer meat. Koku Rawat tried to give her other meats like goat, fish, and chicken, but she only wanted venison. Even though he was old, Koku Rawat couldn’t say no to his wife, so he decided to go hunting for a deer. He invited his nephew, Khim Singh, to join him on the hunt.
Koku Rawat, his men, and Khim Singh went deep into the forest to find a deer. They looked in many places but couldn’t find one. They finally stopped near a spring to rest, and Koku Rawat spotted a deer close by. He ordered his men to surround the deer and not let it escape. The deer jumped over Koku Rawat’s head and ran away. Koku Rawat got very upset and chased the deer until it reached a place called Gangoli Hat.
In Gangoli Hat, there lived a very strong and old warrior named Gauria Gangola. He had seven sons and fourteen grandsons. His dagger weighed nine maunds, and he wore a hemp rope around his waist that was a hundred cubits long. When Koku Rawat and his men arrived, they demanded that Gauria give them the deer. Gauria refused to give up the deer, so Koku Rawat challenged him to a fight.
A big battle began between Koku Rawat and Gauria Gangola. In the end, Gauria was able to cut off Koku Rawat’s head with his dagger. Koku Rawat’s men tried to fight Gauria, but they were all killed, except for Khim Singh, who managed to escape. Khim Singh went back home and told Kunjavati about her husband’s death. He pretended to comfort her but secretly stole all her belongings, leaving her with nothing.
Kunjavati gave birth to a beautiful and strong son named Ransura Bhagdeo while her husband was away. When Bhagdeo was twelve years old, he asked his mother about his father. She told him the whole story of how his father was killed by Gauria Gangola. Bhagdeo became very angry and broke nine stools in his rage. He asked his mother’s permission to fight against the enemy who had killed his father.
Bhagdeo had a stepsister named Ransula who was also very strong. One day, she went to a watermill in Gangoli Hat and accidentally caused the crops in Gauria’s field to dry up. Gauria became furious and tied Ransula up at the watermill. Bhagdeo decided to take revenge for his stepsister and went to Gangoli Hat.
When Bhagdeo arrived in Gangoli Hat, he destroyed Gauria’s crops and went to Gauria’s palace. Gauria’s family bard, Champhu Hurkia, recognized Bhagdeo and told him that he was his family’s bard. Champhu had been captured by Gauria after Koku Rawat’s death. He offered to help Bhagdeo and gave him back his father’s horse, hounds, and weapons that had been captured by Gauria.
Bhagdeo, with the help of Champhu and his father’s horse and weapons, fought against Gauria’s seven sons. He was able to defeat them all and went on to fight against Gauria himself. Bhagdeo tied Gauria to the pillars of his balcony and rescued Ransula. He then found his father’s head, brought it home, and performed the funeral rites. After that, Bhagdeo became the ruler of the country and lived happily ever after.
