Story of Brahma Deo and Birma Dotiali : Once upon a time, there was a brave prince named Brahmdeo who ruled over a beautiful fort called Katyurgarh. His father’s name was Gambhirdeo, and he was a strong and handsome man.

In a far-off land, there were three powerful chiefs named Man Singh, Iswaru, and Raghurai who ruled in a place called Doti-garh. Iswaru, one of the chiefs, had a beautiful daughter named Birma Dotiali. When she was just a little girl, she was promised in marriage to Brahmdeo.

But then, some things happened. Gambhirdeo, Brahmdeo’s father, got sick and passed away. Before he died, he quickly married his son Brahmdeo to a woman named Bijora. Bijora was the sister of three princes from another place called Kalunikot. Brahmdeo and Bijora had seven daughters together, but they didn’t have any sons.

Years went by, and Birma Dotiali grew up to be a beautiful young woman. Many princes wanted to marry her, but her father Iswaru didn’t agree to let any of them marry her. At last, a prince named Khadag Singh, the son of a king named Nirmal Chand, asked for Birma’s hand in marriage. Iswaru agreed, and a wedding day was set.

However, Birma remembered that she had been promised to Brahmdeo when she was a child. She sent him a letter, telling him about her upcoming marriage and inviting him to come and take her as his wife. When Brahmdeo read the letter, he was confused and worried. He decided to go to Doti-garh to marry Birma.

Brahmdeo was a great magician, so he prepared his magical tools and set out for Doti-garh. When he arrived near the town, he stopped at a water mill where people were grinding grain for Birma’s wedding. Brahmdeo, disguised as a priest, talked to them and learned about the wedding.

He then went to Iswaru’s house, still in disguise. When Khadag Singh and his wedding party arrived, Brahmdeo, pretending to be a musician, entertained them with his magical music. He made them all fall asleep with his magic.

Birma was very happy to see Brahmdeo, and she agreed to run away with him. With more magic, Brahmdeo made everyone in the house fall asleep, except for him and Birma. They left the house and crossed a river to reach a place called Devali. From there, they went to a hill called Mori, where they spent the night.

In the morning, Khadag Singh and his men woke up and discovered that Birma was missing. They realized that Brahmdeo might have taken her. They chased after Brahmdeo and found him sleeping on the hill, with Birma by his side. When Birma saw Khadag Singh, she began to cry. Brahmdeo scolded her for waking him up, but they had to leave quickly to escape the angry men.

They rode back to Katyurgarh, but Brahmdeo was very tired. His daughters saw the enemy approaching and urged their father to fight them. Brahmdeo said he couldn’t fight because he didn’t have any sons, only daughters. His daughters felt insulted and asked for a chance to prove themselves.

Brahmdeo tested their strength by asking them to jump over a tall pole. They all succeeded, so he gave them armor and swords. The seven sisters prayed to their family goddess and rode out to fight the enemy. They were very brave and fought hard, but the enemy managed to sneak into Katyurgarh by bribing the gatekeeper.

Brahmdeo prayed for help, and his family goddess made the enemy lose their sight. They started fighting each other, and Brahmdeo’s daughters killed them all, except for the old king, Nirmalchand.
The seven sisters, now known as the Routelis, were killed by Nirmalchand and his remaining soldiers while they were resting near a stream, having left their swords and arrows aside to drink water. In their last moments of life, they fought with all their might but were still outnumbered and outsmarted by their cunning enemy who ended up killing them like so many ripe fruits that fall from trees.
After their death, Brahmdeo performed the funeral rites of his brave and heroic daughters, whose courageous deeds are still remembered and sung about in their homeland of Katyurgarh.
