Story of Nirankar : Once upon a time, there was a weaver named Kavir. He was a very religious man and had dedicated a basket of grains and two coconuts to Nirankar, a divine being. One day, Nirankar decided to visit Kavir’s house in the form of a beggar, but Kavir was not at home. So, the beggar went to Kavir’s wife and asked for some food.
Kavir’s wife knew that the only food left in the house was the basket of grains and the two coconuts dedicated to Nirankar. She told the beggar about it, but the beggar insisted on having some food from the basket. So, she started filling the beggar’s bowl with the grains from the basket, but it never got full, no matter how much she put in.
After emptying the entire basket, she even gave the beggar the two coconuts. The beggar then asked her to close her eyes, and when she opened them, she saw that her room was full of grains and two little boys were playing by her side. However, the beggar had disappeared.
It turned out that the beggar was actually Nirankar in disguise. The two coconuts had transformed into a male and female pig, which were later sacrificed by the Doms, a community in the hills, to Nirankar instead of goats. This story was created to explain why the Doms sacrifice pigs to Nirankar, rather than goats.
